David Andrew Stephenson

bio

R.I.P. Dave Stephenson 12/05/68 - 09/21/06 David Andrew Stephenson fought a six-month battle with cancer, he was taken from us on September 21, 2006 at the age of 36. Dave lived each day to the fullest. From the time of his diagnosis he never thought once that he would not beat it, if anything he downplayed it.

Dave spent the last 10 years of his life working in Regina and briefly in Saskatoon for the Saskatchewan Transportation Company (STC). He was a dedicated employee and hard worker. Many of his co-workers joked that he was always there… even when he was not supposed to be.

Aside from work, Dave's biggest interest was music. From the time he bought his first KISS record he was hooked on "rock". As kids, he and his friends would listen to music endlessly and dream of the day that they themselves would be "rockstars". Although Dave did take guitar lessons and owned guitars off and on he never really stuck with it. Instead he became a "Merch Guy". Not likely the title that he had anticipated as a kid but one that lead him to great opportunities to travel with bands and see so many places.

Dave had an eclectic music library. Back in the day it was Metallica, Iron Maiden, Bon Jovi, typical 80's hair bands, most of whom he saw in concert. As he got older his tastes in music became much more diverse. Whether it be Drag the River, Drive-By-Truckers, Lacuna Coil, Opeth among many more, Dave could tell you why he liked each of them. With all other bands aside, Dave was most dedicated to and biggest fan of Into Eternity. From the beginning Dave was a huge supporter of Tim and what he was doing with and for music.

Dave's greatest legacy would have to be his daughter Acyan, who was born in October of 1998. Dave was such a proud father, he would show everyone her picture and drag her to all of his favorite stores just to show her off. David was also an uncle to Shayla and Emily, he spent so much time with both of them.

In the last two years of his life, Dave met the girl that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with. Jaimie and Dave had the kind of relationship that people wished for. They were made for each other; they loved the same things, respected each other, nurtured one another and loved each other deeply.

Dave was the eldest son of Ken and Carol Stephenson and brother to Danny and Lisa.

David A. was born December 5, 1969.

Dave's poem

(by Tara Keating)

DAVE

The strong and silent type,
yet not afraid to speak his mind.
A friend until the end
for anyone he'd walk the line.

Faithful and insightful,
considerate to a fault.
A man of pure integrity
we shouldn't have to live without.

When you reach for his hand
and he's no longer there.
We'll reach out for each other,
and say a silent prayer.

When there are no longer words
to satisfy our tears.
When there isn't one more day,
to add to all the years.

We'll commemorate this man.
His deep voice and booming laugh.
The Black Bunny-hug Club.
And that devilish smile he had.

Now we stand together.
So as divided we won't fall.
Dave would never have that
As he watches over us all.

As father, son and lover,
and best friend to many more.
At peace we let you rest now
David Andrew we adore.

My most sincere wishes of comfort to you. As a mother the very scariest thing i could ever imagine would be to lose my daughter.. but to have it actually happen, you must be devastated... I'm devastated and he was only my friend. I know there's nothing to say that can make you feel better but know that if there is anything, ANYTHING at all I can do for you, make you guys a meal so you don't have to worry about cooking for a day or help out in any way let me know.

Also Tim Really wants to be there for the funeral, but as you know he's across the country. His thoughts are with you all

I only had the opportunity to know Dave for a couple years, but even in that short time, the impact he had on me was huge. He will be truly missed by anyone he came into contact with. I wish the family strength and support, and hope that there is at least some comfort in knowing that his time here was not for nothing. He helped others change for the better just by the example he set for so many people. He demonstrated how to be a genuine, patient, and caring human being to all who met him.
